Ed Sheeran sets new Spotify record for one-day streams

Ed Sheeran has set a new record for one-day streams on digital music service, Spotify.
The Grammy Awaes winner achieved that feat with both of his comeback singles, ‘ Castle On The Hill’ and ‘Shape Of You’ . The singles will precede the release of his third album, entitled ‘÷’, which will arrive later in the year.

Both songs smashed the existing Spotify record for one-day streams, which was previously held by One Direction‘s song ‘Drag Me Down’, which pulled in 4,759,698 plays on July 31 2015. The boyband had previously broken the record held by rapper Wiz Khalifa, who had 4.26 million streams in 24 hours for his song ‘See You Again’ on April 17 2015.

A 16-year old girl who was a victim of sexual abuse has made a shocking confession, saying that she cannot do without having s*x with men daily.
She narrated how an old man, who was their neighbour at Mile 12, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, lured her into s*x at seven and since then she cannot resist having s*x everyday.

The primary two pupil said if she did not see any man to have s*x with her in her area, she would go to a popular under bridge at Mile 12 Lagos and beg for s*x from touts.
She said she came from Enugu state to Lagos to live with her aunt after the death of her father.
Her case has become so serious that she had to be referred to an NGO, Community Health Support and Empowerment Initiative, COHSAEI, which has taken up the challenge to rehabilitate her.
The little girl said she was lured into s*x by a man she called Baba who lived with her aunt in the same compound.

She said the man (Baba) usually called her to his apartment whenever his wife and her aunt were not around and will put his finger inside her private part.

“He will tell me to come back home immediately our school closes andwhen I reach home he will be waiting for me to finger my honeypot,” she narrated.

She said with time he started having real s*x with her. She said when the man that initiated her into it moved out of their area, she resorted to meeting other men in the area without her aunt knowing.
She said she has become addicted to s*x and cannot do without it.

“When I desire s*x and I do not see anybody to do it in my area, I will go under the bridge and beg the touts to do it for me,” she said.

Her predicament came when she confessed to her teacher what she was going through after the teacher noticed some abnormal behaviour in her. The teacher contacted her aunt who contacted an NGO for assistance.
The programme coordinator of the NGO, Mrs. Priscilla Ingbia, noted that her case was very pathetic because of her age. She said her group took up the challenge to rehabilitate her because it was clear if nothing was done urgently her future was in danger.
She said her organisation has started the process of rehabilitating her by carrying out series of tests on her to ascertain her health conditions.
Ingbia stressed the urgent need to relocate her from her present environment and start a new life for her.
She said her organisation has not been able to do so because of thefinancial cost of doing so.

How to cook egusi mixed with vegetables soup

Recipe for 4 servings
• 2 smoked catfish
• 1 kilogramme of lean beef
• 3 bunches of waterleaves (washed, shredded)
• 2 bunches of ugu (Pumpkin) leaves (washed, shredded)
• 2 small stockfish
• 3 cups of (melon) egusi (ground)
• 2 tablespoons of ground crayfish
• 1 onion (shredded)
• 4 red pepper (ground)
Method
Wash, salt, season, and cook the beef, stockfish and fish until the meat is quite tender. Continue the boiling and add the palm oil, crayfish, pepper and the onions, boil for another three minutes. Stir and add the ground egusi , cover and simmer for two minutes, before adding the shredded waterleaves and
ugu leaves. Stir thoroughly and simmer for two minutes. Remove from heat and serve alongside hot iyan, that is, pounded yam.

This year’s event took place last Sunday. Subway riders in Chicago and other cities around the world got an eyeful when their fellow transit users stripped down to their underwear.
According to the group, tens of thousands of people in more than 60 cities and 25 countries left their pants at home last year and walked almost n*ked while riding the train.
What are the rules? According to Improv Everywhere, “Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants. The participants behave as if they do not know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants.”
Though the event began in New York, people in cities from Portland to Paris to Prague are planning to participate this year.

When people are not married, they are viewed as people who are not responsible and ready to settle down.
In fact, marriage and wedding are so much exaggerated in form and words that you think something is wrong with you if you are not yet married.
As a matter of fact, a lot of people think that love equals marriage. All the sweet words, sacrifices, affection, passion, intimacy or sweetness of friendship have been placed at the centre of marriage.
So, if you are not married or you are a single parent, you think something is wrong with you. And that has made a lot of people worried. And with the sexual explosion, nothing seems to be better or sweeter than sex, which we say must be within the marriage vow.
We say behind every successful man is a woman, and same for every outstanding woman. We leave those not married under what and how they can be happy.
There are stigmatisations for people who are not married or do not have children. These labels are wrong and we have not got the information helpful.
True, marriage has its glories, but who says one cannot be happy, love and be loved and live fulfilled as a single?
I write today from that standpoint, and these things are true. For all the singles take note.
1. You Are Not Alone
The scripture in Genesis, where it was said that it was not good for a man to be alone, have been used out of context.
For God to say means that there was no other man, with Adam; all are animals.
Also, we must note that God did not create Eve for marriage, but for companionship and help. In fact, it was Adam who made Eve his wife.
As much as we say God instituted the marriage institution, I am yet to see where that happened. Don’t let anyone make you feel you are alone; look around, there are people. There are those who are married, but are still lonely and looking for that one satisfaction, that union of mind and soul.
2. We Need Friends
The Bible said in Proverbs 17 vs 17: “A friend loveth at all times.” That is what we need. If friendship does not lead to marriage, it is enough still as friendship. Why don’t we appreciate our friends?
I know a friend who said when he marries, his wife would be his best friend for life. And I was bothered. I asked him what the people in his life right now meant to him.
It is possible he is reserving his love for a person he hasn’t met. The love and affection of all the people around him right now means nothing until he finds the ‘Woman of his heart.’
What some persons do not know is that there are kinds of love. There is a love of a woman, which may not necessarily mean a wife, as it could be a mother or even sister or any other woman.
Then, there is brotherly love, there is a love for the law, our intellectual passion or love for arts or music.
We need a friend not bonded by any law, but love. Your spouse may be faithful to you, not because of love, but because of the vow of marriage made at the altar, which is not different from what you do when you enter a profession.
If you have good friends, be happy. One scripture that inspires this thought is in St John 13 vs 1, where it was said Jesus loved “His own,” which were in the world. He loved them to the very end. It wasn’t marriage that bonded them; it was love.
There are people that can love you, there are people given you to love. They are your world. Don’t be distressed and start running about looking for someone to say, “I love you and will marry you.” There are people around you already, those who love you, marriage or not.
Love is all that matters after all. If you are good with those around you now, you will be good with your spouse.
3. Not Everyone Will Marry
Sex is such a beautiful thing. But am afraid, we have turned the thirst to drunkenness. The desire is natural and okay, but we have made it intoxicating that we make most of our decisions around it.
The trouble in the world is that we are not content with what we have right now or who we are right now. More so, not everyone will marry, whether we like it or not. We could go for deliverance and have prophecies and match-making and all of that, but there are still certain persons that are not wired for the marriage thing.
Sometimes, I wish we just know that we cannot have everything to be happy. The social system and structure of our culture is our doom. There is no room for those of us who are least or weak or poor. We put up labels on people who do not meet the social strata that earn respect.
Many people marry today because they feel they will miss sex. They have fantasised that marriage will be kissing in the morning, foreplay, hard thrusting at night, weekend outings and vacations where you make love all day. And the way it is been talked about, you think your life is reduced without it.
For some, it is children. They want to have children, and it must be within wedlock. If the children do not come, I wonder what will become of that marriage.
My advice is, if marriage comes, good. If it doesn’t come, it is equally good. Never think you must marry to ever be happy or achieve all your goals.
4. Don’t Be In Hurry
Marriage will come, but be happy. Don’t ever believe that you must marry a particular person to be fulfilled. Yes, there are special persons, we know it when we meet them, but be sure. We should marry the mind of a person.
The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Anyone can love you, but the quality of the person, the way the person thinks and the persuasions of that person’s life is what makes the person.
Be careful who you commit your whole life to. Feelings fade! Don’t let anyone use any manipulation to woo your heart and make you slave to passion that are passive and temporal. Don’t be bound to the dictates of a wrong heart.
Someone may love you with all his or her heart, but if that heart is dark, dangerous and deceitful, that will be the colour of the love you will have from it. Take your time.
The heart is hidden behind smiles, gifts, gestures and courtesies. If you want to be happy, wait. God is the one who made the heart, He will send love and friends to you. He made you come through parents you didn’t choose, He will bring the right persons along the way.

T.I. Writes Open Letter To President Obama

Misuse of antibiotics can be harmful, Experts warn

Say No New Ones In The Pipeline
In accordance with the 2015 World Health Assembly’s number one Global Action Plan on antimicrobial (antibiotics) resistance, a medical General Practitioner, Dr. Mojisola Sanyaolu has cautioned Nigerians against the misuse and overuse of antibiotics.
In an interview with her in Lagos, she said it has been found that lots of people abuse antibiotics, and its resistance has become a global challenge that have put lots of countries at risk, including Nigeria.
She told The Guardian that misuse and overuse of antibiotics in the country is due to its accessibility over the counter with or without any professional prescriptions.
Sanyaolu, who said she won’t play any blame game as to its accessibility, noted that oftentimes, people are ignorant because they do not understand the consequences of their actions and how such can harm them, hence the need to strengthen awareness on its resistance.
World Health Organisation (WHO) outlined five objectives during the 2015 Global Action Plan on antimicrobial resistance, and top of the priority was improving awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance through effective communication, education and training.
According to her, WHO has predicted that, if by 2050 nothing is done about antibiotic misuse, 10 million people are going to die from its resistance, “which is very alarming.”
The 2015 Global Action Plan states that, “its resistance threatens the very core of modern medicine and the sustainability of an effective, global public health response to the enduring threat from infectious diseases.”
According to the Plan, the systematic misuse and overuse of these drugs in human medicine and food production have put every nation at risk and without harmonised and immediate action on a global scale, the world is heading towards a post-antibiotic era in which common infections could once again kill.
Antibiotics, Sanyaolu said, are supposed to be used at the right time, with the appropriate dose for the right number of days and within the correct interval. “However, people tend to use them not according to prescription and others do not discontinue as of when due, because they feel not fully recovered yet,” she said.
She explained that those groups of medicine are for the treatment of infections arising from microorganism invasion of the human tissue causing diseases.
She said: “antibiotics are only meant for treatment of bacterial infection, but you find people purchasing them to treat viral infections. This is an inappropriate use of this set of drugs.
“In clinical practice, respiratory tract infections in children, cough and catarrh have been identified as common viral infections, which most people treat with antibiotics inappropriately. About 70 per cent of these infections are viral.
“Antibiotics resistance threatens the efficient prevention and treatment of the ever growing array of bacterial caused infections. This means due to their overuse, the bad bacterial it’s supposed to fight gets an adaptive mechanism against the drug, such that it renders it ineffective, which poses serious risk to any victim, because they can die as a result of that infection.”
She cited the current challenge of people’s resistance to the Tuberculosis drugs, owing to abuse of these antibiotics.”
The 2015 WHO Global Action Plan on antibiotic stated that, just few replacement products are in the pipeline.
The general practitioner warned that until the right attitude to the use of drugs, especially antibiotics, is cultivated, even the newly discovered ones would still be abused.
Similarly, Prof. Dame Sally Davies, who described antibiotic resistance as “a ticking time bomb” in a report by Fergus Walsh, warned that routine operations could become deadly in just 20 years, if we lose the ability to fight infections because of the resistance.
Sally advanced in the report that, “if we don’t take action, then we may all be back in an almost 19th Century environment, where infections kill us as a result of routine operations. We won’t be able to do a lot of our cancer treatments or organ transplants.”
She reiterated that there haven’t been any new classes of antibiotics since the late 1980s and there are very few ones in the pipeline of the big pharmaceutical companies that develop and make drugs.
Prof. Oyewale Tomori, outgoing President, Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS), also identified two major issues regarding antibiotics resistance, saying fake drugs with inappropriate content as one of the causes, since organisms develop resistance to insufficient drugs. Non-completion of treatment is the other factor, which weakens the bacteria, but enables it to eventually grow more resistance.
He explained that if it is an infectious disease, the system of the infected person automatically develops resistance, as a result of the trait in the disease host’s body.
“If people would only realise the gravity of their action. You are using a drug, which is not having any effect and you are dying, as a result, it should be enough to make them do the right thing,” he said.
Although some healthcare practitioners are driving an agenda for a policy guideline in that regard, Sunyaolu still urged the government to prioritise it in order to enhance the proper and rational use of antibiotics, as obtains in some developed countries.
The guideline, she said, would guide healthcare professionals and doctors on antibiotic prescription, as this is not the job of just one person.
She advised that people should visit the hospital with any complaint for comprehensive laboratory investigation, as there are several reasons that could cause symptoms.
“Antibiotics should strictly be prescribed by a doctor. People should not force their doctors to prescribe them. They should also not self medicate.
Antibacterial resistance happens, when organisms are able to survive medicines aimed at destroying them,” she said.

Adeboye steps down as head of Nigeria’s Redeemed Church, names successor

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, on Saturday appointed a new head of the church’s branch in Nigeria.
The new overseer in charge of the Redeemed Church in Nigeria is Joshua Obayemi.
Mr. Adeboye announced he was stepping down from the position, and will now be the general overseer of the church’s international arm.
Mr. Adeboye was born on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara, Osun State.
He had his B.Sc. in Mathematics at University of Nigeria Nsukka, and subsequently got his PhD in applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos, and worked as a lecturer in Mathematics at the universities of Lagos and Ilorin, before going into full time priesthood in 1984.
After joining the RCCG in 1973, he began working to translate the sermons of its then Pastor and founder, Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, from Yoruba into English.
In 1981, Mr. Adeboye was appointed General Overseer of the church.
He took over from Rev. Akindayomi, who died the previous year.
For three years he performed the role part-time, still lecturing at Ilorin.
He finally gave up his university position to preach full-time.
The church, which was not well known prior to Mr. Adeboye’s ascendance, has grown phenomenally, to become Nigeria’s biggest, with branches in about 190 countries, including more than 14,000 in Nigeria.
Mr. Adeboye has said that his aim is to put a church within five minutes of every person on earth.
He married Adenike, 68, in 1967.
NAN reports that Mr. Obayemi was appointed the new Nigeria overseer at the Annual Ministers Thanksgiving at Shimawa, in Ogun State.
Mr. Obayemi was the Special Assistant to the General Overseer (SATGO) on Finance.
Mr. Adeboye also appointed Johnson Odesola, who was the Special Assistant on Administration and Personnel, as the church Secretary. (NAN)

Wizkid, Runtown make Billboard Twitter Top Tracks chart

Starboy Music Worldwide superstar, Wizkid, and former Eric-Manny act, Runtown, have made Billboard’s Twitter Top Tracks chart.
The chart, which has 50 top songs from various acts across different genres, saw both Nigerian acts making their debut appearances.
Wizkid’s song “Daddy Yo”, which was released on the night of the Headies awards, made the number 31 spot ahead of Drake’s “One Dance”, featuring Wizkid and Kyla, while Runtown’s rave single, “Mad Over You”, was 38 on the list.
While this is Runtown’s first appearance on the Billboard charts, this makes it the second time Wizkid would be appearing on Billboard, the first being his feature on Drake’s hit single, “One Dance” which made Billboard’s Top 100.
However, this would be the first time Wizkid is making an appearance on a personal level.
Asides Wizkid and Runtown appearing on the charts, Tekno had earlier appeared on Billboard’s list as one of the 10 hip-hop, R&B artists to watch in 2017.
